Saw the latest McDonalds ad, the one featuring Buklod’s Kanlungan. The ad is well made, great production value, so to speak, and people are already looking for the Buklod album (They can be bought in UP’s Shopping Center, in that stall with mountaineering equipment and UP shirts).
Still, I’m a bit reluctant to welcome the ad with open arms, or associate one of my favorite songs to hamburgers. Granted, it’s a soft sell (no hamburgers are actually shown), but the song, in its entirety, is a lament to the loss of secret places—the kind of places Ronald McDonald and his ilk should never touch. It feels so wrong—a colonialization at the conceptual level, which I think is far more dangerous than U.S. troops in every corner.

tama, tama, tama…para sa akin, isa sa pinakamagandang kanta ang kanlungan at hindi totoong angkop sa mcdonalds commercial…pero, sa isang banda ay bigla akong natuwa, natuwa ako dahil naaalala ko si noel cabangon, mainstream na talaga siya! aside from his usual wednesday gig at bistro, you can see him almost everywhere nowadays…recently he had a gig with paulo santos in makati ave…failed to see that one…i still haven’t heard his “pasakalye” collection…and i hear he is launching a new album this august…

Ah… para sa akin, ang kantang “Kanlungan” ay isa sa mga pinakapaborito ko sa ngayon. May it be accurate for Mcdo’s commercial or not, for me, it is the best as far as the lyrics are concern. It soothes the heart and lightens the spirit. Congrats… Hope we will have some songs in the future as good and as meaningful as this one…

I really like this song, whenever I watch on a T.V. advertise ng Mcdo specially when I got some dinner or mapa-lunch or mapa-breakfast sa Mc Do. If I heard that song parang naalala ko yong dati kung mga friendz na Happy kami while eating, kasi tambayan namin dati macdonals kaya nong nag-graduate na kami lahat I feel so sad kasi nakakapukaw damdamin ang song na yan. Kaya im so inspired with it!

Isang beses ko pa lang nakitang magperform si noel cabangon, ilang tumbling lang kasi mula dito sa office nasa bistro nako. Lahat ng sinulat kong request sa tissue na james taylor kinanta nya. Gusto ko din ang kanta nya bago pa gamitin ng mcdo sa ad nila. Naiimagine ko, parang gusto kong ilagay sa wedding video ko habang pinapakita ang mga lumang litrato namin mula pagkabata. Pero sa isang banda parang di applicable ang lyrics. Sana isang araw magtumbling ulit ako papuntang bistro pag nandyan ulit si noel.

After they heard the song, syempre hahanapin nila yung ALBUM, tapos mapapakinggan na nila yung TOTOO sa mga musikang dapat at kung hindi man ay subukang pakinggan ng bawat Filipino.The McDonald’s thing… yes it helps them (McDo), the commercial also lift Mr. Cabangon… and might be for those who never heard some song like this. I love this song so much! It makes me look forward to the days that I’ll be spending with my boyfriend, especially when all our children are already grown up and have decided to live on their own. It’s a really sweet song, with a touch of Filipino values and tradition. =)

I am a member of an environmental association here in Pampanga. “Kanlungan” is I think a fitting song for our oraganization. I suggested that this song be our organization’s theme song. Sadly, our Vice President commented that it is “kinda CORNY”. Well, I did not bother to ask him whether the song is corny or it is corny to have a theme song. The song is a great song and I love it, whatever some people think of it.

Some of the comments were really damn straight down to the point, in which a song that refects on the essence of any relationship to be associated with a fastfood chain. It’s so lame. But to be frankly speaking we should focus in the association of the commercial itself with the song where in time friends or family may part ways but destiny still holds the possibility of reunion. And most of all this song makes me cry, due to the fact that I’ve just been dumped by a chick that I’ve learned to love.

The song is great. It reminds me alot of memories. It reflects the Filipino values and tradition. Masarap maging pinoy. I used to hear this song before gone to bed at the same it wakes me up in the morning over the fm station. Maganda ang song na kanlungan, nung ako bata pa nakikinig ko na yan, hanggang sa pag sikat ng kanta, ksi nung una kung narinig yan na inspire na ako sa song especially its a earth’s song and nature’s song (Mountaineering Song. Hanggang sa sumali ako sa mountaineering club, almost yun ang highlights namin especially pag nasa bukid kmi, parang wala kang problema, when i heard that song it calm me Kung baga ang lyrics, it touches our lives and create a meaningful values to our environment and especially ourselves. I think it inspires everyone that song and i dedicated it to all lovers, mountaineers, family, frends, and etc.

kanlungan..no doubt naman tlga kahit sinong makarinig mapapatigil. malakas ang dating talaga. actually hindi sa commercial ng mcdo unang lumabas yan. nagamit na yan sa channel 7 ung nag sasalita si rey langit tungkol sa isang historical place na kung saan nabubuhay ang isang matandang puno na naging saksi sa mga nagdaang paghihirap ng mga bayani natin noon. iyon talaga masasabi kong tama ang pagkagamit ng song na yun para dun. more power to noel cabangon..

i think its just a matter of choice. its no problem that noel actually his group chose to endorse mcdo. bat kelangan ntin dikdikin si noel at patuloy na husgahan???? does it make him or them less nationalistic, environmentalist, kaakibat, good, alternaive artist or what have you? visit his gigs na lang and buy his albums. maka2tulong pa tyo. nga pala may corcert sya sa nov 27 at AFP theatre. lets support him. catch noel at 70s bistro evry wednesday.

bro.. tagalog lang ung kanta kaya mo nasabing hindi angkop o hindi appropriate kay ronald mcdonald o sa mcdo ung kanta. Inglesin mo.. ganun din ang tema di ba? para namang walang ganung samahan sa amerika. mcdo lang naman ang nagbigay ng “high lights” dun sa song di ba? kung susuriin mong mabuti ung lyrics ng kanta… LOVE SONG un.. o kanta ng isang umiibig sa kanyang iniirog na kababatang babae. ..as far as i am concerned, mcdo didnot convince me.. but the mssg of the song did… congrats to the one who directed or who made the script.. it touched my heart.. it kept coming back to my mind.. memories of passing times in the family. sad to think that lahat ay kailangang lumisan like panahon…make the most of present moments, enjoy them… because hindi na maibabalik ang kahapon..
