Justice Hardlove (aka Remir) and I, along with some classmates and friends, are setting up a constitutional law organization in the UP College of Law.
Our adviser will be (surprise!) Professor Florin Hilbay. You ask why? I say—why not? We have an environmental law organization, a childrens-rights organization, a women-in-law organization, even a boyfriends-of-women-in-law organization. Why can’t we have a persistent forum for learning about the fundamental law of the land? People might feel it’s too presumptuous, as constitutional law is usually the territory of justices or law school deans. Some think that constitutional law is no law at all, but merely high politics. It’s the kind of attitude that will give us another EDSA. Or another flip flop to parliamentary government. Or a decision like Francisco v. House of Representatives.

We’re not going to save this country, but we hope to talk some sense to future justices, senators, or presidents. As for the incumbents, they are probably hopeless.

Plus, it’s a chance for me to improve my social life. Cocktails at the Faculty Lounge on Monday! Whooo!
