EDSA DOS
We went back to the rally yesterday afternoon. Our boss allowed everyone who wanted to go. He went there in the afternoon and I think he was also there when we went to EDSA on the night immediately following the vote on the envelope.
Compared to the first night, the atmosphere at the shrine was a bit more serious. I think the realization is hitting KOMPIL and the other groups that they need to do something to do the momentum. Petite, Wowell, Pia and I volunteered to do some work for KOMPIL as suggested by Nikko. Petite and Pia went to secretariat, arranging food and donations which were coming in. Wowell and I ended up as marshalls, which basically crowd control. Easy job for Wowell but not for me. Hawi boy ako kahapon. Nanghawi ako for Cory and Kris Aquino, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Senators Drilon, Cayetano, Legarda and the various generals and congressmen.
I realized most Filipinos are star-struck. I discovered a whole new species of star-struck animals. While there are some people who devour and hang-on to everything about their favorite showbiz idols, there are those people who actually love seeing politicians. We had to fight off these citizens who insist on climbing up to the stage area. When asked what business they have, they’ll just say, “Bakit? Di ba pwede?” Yeesh. It’s scary that these people react EXACTLY the same way to politicians as they do with showbiz people. But then in this country, it’s one and the same right?
Speaking of showbiz, I was there when Bong Revilla and his wife Lani Mercado visited the shrine. We just had our dinner of Jollibee Burger Steak when this throng of people wearing yellow ‘Idol ko si Bong’ caps barged into the makeshift KOMPIL HQ. The people at the door closed it because there were already too many people inside. Bong’s people who got left outside raised their voices and insisted that they be allowed inside. It was tense for a few moments. I mean these are huge goon type men. In any case, when they realized they can’t force their way in, they just stayed outside and loitered. One had to pee in a cup near me when he learned that the comfort rooms were downstairs.
I can’t help but compare these people to the security detail of Cory and GMA. I mean theirs was forceful but courteous. These guys were just bullies.
To think Bong Revilla throws around this much security just being a governor. What would happen if he becomes senator?
Maybe he learned some of these things from his friend Jinggoy.
