Yo-Yo Day

by mcg

Don’t you hate Yo-Yo Days? These are days which aren’t exactly bad but not altogether good? It’s the it-starts-good-but-it-ends-sucky-type days.

Our regular feature on the noontime TV show went on as usual. But then I noticed that the votes (the audience is encouraged to vote using their cellphones) weren’t as high as the previous shows. I called up our partner for the project and the tech contact there said that the server can’t handle the load. “Uh…ok…what can we do?” I asked. “Well we can transfer it to the high capacity server,” she said. “But that’s not something we can do right away, like right now, right?” I asked. “Nope,” the tech person answered.

To make a long story short. We withdrew the contest right in the middle of the show. For once it wasn’t our fault. The servers went down from the sheer volume of the traffic. Can you believe that? We wanted a proof of concept experiment but we didn’t expect this overwhelming response. There’s your friggin proof of concept!

That’s the good part.

Late afternoon we learned that a sister company is essentially cutting our legs with a strategic move they’re making. So much for sisterly love.
