Big Brother Starts at Home
Seems like ol’ Bill and his cohorts at Microsoft are taking a long hard look at bloggers from within the company.
The issue there of course is - how do you prevent sensitive information from being leaked? Some of the MS bloggers are hosted on the company’s site. Would MS then have the right to censor content on these sites?
When I was with my previous job, there were some people who were maintaining blogs. They’d vent about the work sure but they mostly discuss their interests. I’m sure some members of the management team were checking it out once in awhile.
For me I think, it’s inevitable for blogs to creep into or talk about the workplace especially if the workplace is a tech company. I mean they do spend more than eight hours of their waking life each day in the office and obviously they will develop some opinion at very least of their work or of the people they work with. Everything is personal after all.
Maintaining blogs in general should be a healthy exercise. It makes people verbalize what would otherwise be their internal dialogue. I am all for release. I think people are smart enough not to disclose sensitive information on blogs anyway, unless they’re really out to hurt the company.
It’ll be interesting to see what MS will do with these sites. Might even set a precedent.
