A Pinoy Blog About Nothing

A lady at a party goes up to Winston Churchill and tells him, "Sir, you are drunk." Churchill replies, "Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober."

After Before

Before Sunrise I mean. Apparently they’re making a sequel. (link blatantly stolen from Nic)

Before Sunrise is the perfect date movie. I don’t mean it’s a movie you ought to take your date to (not on the first date I think) rather, the events in the movie is my idea of a perfect date. Sure some of the dialogue might have your eyes rolling sometimes but the idea of what’s happening to the characters is pretty intense: You’re both totally comfortable with each other and just talk and get to know each other and climb and walk around each other’s brains for hours on end. (Yeah I know what you’re thinking - it’s all a bit cornball but I never pretended to be otherwise.)

I’m a bit wary of the sequel not because I don’t think Linklater, Hawke and Delpy can recapture what they got 8 years ago. I’m sure they’ve matured in the crafts. It’s like parting with a friend all those years ago and you only have good memories of that person. Suddenly you find out that person’s in town and would like to meet with you. You’re happy that you’ll be seeing your friend again but you also dread the moment that maybe you’ve idealized that person too much and you won’t like what the person has become today. You’d rather keep that glowing memory rather than risk seeing that person and having a banal experience.

Basically I feel that way to all movie sequels but not as intensely as Before Sunrise. (It’s way too early for me. I need coffee.)

** Oh and I just saw this site on Mozilla. Sorry to anyone out there using that browser. I’ll fix this as soon as whenever.

hm, i’m also wary about this particular sequel. same sentiments as you. this is one talky movie that i really loved, and linklater can make a talky movie–nakatulog lang talaga ako sa Waking Life. there’s a possibility that it’ll be a bomb, and i don’t want the dreaminess and perfection of Before Sunrise to evaporate. Better to preserve the memory than wake up to brash and unflattering sunlight?

  2. tsk, nag train rin ako over a year ago, sa limang araw kong nakasakay sa loob ng box, ni wala man lang akong nakilalang interesanting. tsk tsk…daig pa nya ang LRT, siguradong punong puno ka ng kwento pag baba mo. ahahaha. pero nag enjoy rin ako sa before sunrise, napaka espontation.

  3. hey, i’ve seen that. ethan hawke, right? who’ll be the new actors?

    btw i linked you. :)

  4. Hi Dawna! I think it’s the same crew for the sequel.

  5. Linklater semi-revealed what happened to Hawke’s and Delpy’s characters in Waking Life.

  6. Sorry Rowster I couldn’t keep my eyes open for Waking Life. After the initial awe of the approach Linklater took, I got bored. So what did Linklater reveal?
