A Pinoy Blog About Nothing

El Gonzo Bloggo Weekend

Okay I was just being irresponsible over the weekend.

Got together with a couple of high school buddies starting Friday. One of those nights out that was just totally unplanned. Those seem to work better and seem more fun than planned gimiks. (Don’t worry honey, outside of the alcohol, it was totally wholesome. :) )

It was like a scene from a movie (the movie I’m writing at least and I’ll finish it before I die I swear). Wala naman…nag umpisa lang naman sa mga kwentong buhay. While before we talked about homeworks and getting dates and making fun of our teachers, we’re finding ourselves talking more about kids, wives, careers…and making fun of our teachers (not necessarily in that order mind you).

And then as we went on a crazy scheme which sent us from Makati to QC, we bumped into old friends and met new ones. I managed to sing a couple of lines of ‘Moonriver’ to this couple-friends (er…friends who are now a couple) when I recognized them from behind, HHWWPSSP (holding hands while walking, pa swing, swing pa). Freaked them out a bit when they didn’t realize at first who the singing psycho was but yes, I’m strange like that.

We found ourselves at Kusineo at around 1 in the morning. We were supposed to meet our friend at Moomba but as we were parking I thought we’d drop by Kusineo on the off chance Meg will be there. I’ve been wanting to drop by Kusineo ever since they’ve opened but it’s a bit out of the way for me already (it’s nearer my old place of employment though). I’ve ‘met’ Meg online via her blog. She knew some of my friends and I keep bumping into acquaintances of hers. That’s BF (Before Friendster). I’m glad I finally got a chance to at least say hello. (Hey Meg I still don’t have an idea for a costume for the party on the 31st. I was serious about going as a dot com (”Oooh look at me! I have no business plan! Isn’t that scary?”) or as an SMS (I’ll be holding up 160 character signs like “Who R U?”, “K”, “CU”) though.)

I posted the pictures in the last entry while we were at Kusineo waiting for our friend Alex to show up. He texted to meet us at Whistle Stop (kain na naman!) so off we went racing into the night.

At 4am, we found ourselves at the Dangwa bus station near Espa?a to pick up flowers. Wowell, who runs a flower shop called - I’m not making this up- ‘Smell My Flowers’- had an order to fill before 9 am that day. Nikko picked up a bouquet for his preggy wife.

The Dangwa flower shops at 4am has a surreal quality about it. It’s the best time and place to get fresh flowers in Metro Manila. Maybe it’s just me but it has that Land of Oz quality to it: all those beautiful flowers set in the background of crumbling houses with all the pre-dawn dangers of Manila. Pretty things with thorns.

At 6am, back to the office to activate a couple of things for the weekend sales. On the road to Greenhills for the flower delivery by 7am.

Went home to sleep at 8am. I managed to sleep through most of the day, giving Dubya his chance to criss-cross Manila. Had a half-awake conversation with my dear Petite around lunchtime. I found out Amazon is just to efficient in its delivery but got my order wrong nonetheless. It was supposed to be gift-wrapped, Jeff Bezos!

Woke up late afternoon to see De Venecia on TV, grinning like the Chesire Cat when Bush placed an arm on his shoulder. Kinilig si mokong. Got in touch with Nikko and Wowell. Looks like we’re on for a Batangas trip tomorrow at 6am. Where? It was either Nasugbu or Lemery. Basta Batangas. Tuned out Bush after hearing his Rizal and Pope quotes. Booted up Tommy Vercetti and Solid Snake instead.

Met up with another set of old friends at ? Tapas Bar at Rockwell at around 10pm. Didn’t know there was that Seventeen mag party at the Tent (Sssshhhhh! Don’t tell anyone at the office!). Spent time catching up. Talked about careers, kids, and general goings-on. We used to get together every weekend and these soirees are becoming too infrequent and I have a suspicion there will be less in the future.

Went to 90 Proof to try out Dundee’s new buffalo wing recipe. No alcohol for me tonight. As usual, no complaints about the food. Well, maybe except that they were too good. Gusto kong umorder ng kanin at kamayin kaso wa-poise. Andun pa naman bagong girlfriend ni Andre. They joined us at 90 Proof after going to Sanctum (yet another old haunt less frequented these days). Again these things were totally unplanned. Happy accidents!

Went home at 2am. Packed for a day trip. Called up Petite to have a decent conversation. Killed time by watching the Friends 4th Season dvd. Left by 5am. Turns out the BLTB bus station at Pasay has been closed down. Something to do with the owner dying and the kids not wanting to continue the business. Damn. Went to the Tritran station at Buendia. Nikko flaked out so it was just Wowell and me. Decided to take the Lemery bus.

We passed through a town called Balisong which, I guess, where the famous butterfly knives originated. Didn’t know that then. I do know Angelina Jolie collects balisongs. (Heh. Ricky Lo didn’t know that!)

4 hours later we were at Lemery. We decided to take a boat ride from these two boatmen who were like Estragon and Vladimir from Waiting for Godot. Totally clueless to the state of resorts in the area. Or how to steer a boat. Ended up at Dive and Trek. No beach but there’s salt water. And sun. And more importantly, a buffet. It wasn’t a total disaster. Still no beach though.

Got home at 8 pm. Slept. Woke up at 7am Monday morning. Went to work. I guess I needed that out of my system before I tackle business plans and 2004 forecasts again. Can’t expect happy accidents for those. Oi.

But the beach still beckons…

I hope Jen was talking to Pia otherwise someone else is using our name. That would really be smelly!
