Just to break the ‘me’ posts and the usually dreary state of Philippine politics, here are some hopefully entertaining links:

Movies

For movie buffs and sort of cinephiles check out Tagline’s Thursday Three (kahit Friday na dito sa Pilipinas):

1. Do we need Indiana Jones 4?

Only if they pull a Young Indiana Jones or a Jack Ryan in Sum of All Fears: Harrison Ford reminscing about his last (or first) adventures as a younger Indy. Otherwise I’d rather see Sean Connery thrown in the mix and call it Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth.

2. What the heck do we want to see after The Return of the King?

Peter Jackson’s King Kong should rock. I have hopes for Hellboy too. Oh and if they get around doing Dragonlance and Chronicles of Narnia those should be good.

3. Who should star in Terminator 4?

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson going after John Connor with Robert Patrick and Kristanna Loken as reprogrammed ‘Nators defending him. Thrown in a cameo of Ah-nuld (he did say he killed John Connor in the future right?) to make it four Terminators. Sort of a Terminator showdown with the ghost of Linda Hamilton as referee. No seriously.

Check out Shiloah’s movie list and Raffy’s reviews. I should finish my annotated list soon. (Hah! Heard that before…)

And speaking of lists, Quentin Tarantino talks about his influences and movie references in Kill Bill. It should be fun tracking these titles down. Ironic that it’ll be extra challenging doing that because it’s harder to get copies of Asian movies in Manila.

Music

Have you downloaded iTunes for Windows yet? Goodbye Winamp! (Sorry to see you go but iTunes is a way cooler app…) It makes me want to get an iPod. Not.

More of the online pay-services: it’s the return of the comeback (ika nga ni Tito, Vic and Joey) of the granddaddy of apps ending in -Ster: Napster will be back online on October 29. Honestly, I didn’t know that the logo was that of a cat. I thought it was, you know, Napsman.

Games

Want to feel old? Electronic Gaming Monthly talked to kids while they’re playing old school games. You know, pre-PS2 - from the Atari console to Super Nintendo. These kids, age 11-13, thrashed Pong, Donkey Kong, Super Mario and Space Invaders. Dammit! And I was the Atari Combat champion in our block. *Sniff*

On Pong:
John: I’d sooner jump up and down on one foot. By the way, is this supposed to be tennis or Ping-Pong?

On Donkey Kong:
Tim: Mario dies way too easy. Oh, grab the umbrella. Those are cool. Unfashionable, gay, but cool. Oh, 300 points. That’s it? All you get is points? That’s lame. Can’t you do something with the umbrella?

On Super Mario Bros.:
Tim: I think mushrooms are like steroids in this. See how you get bigger and stronger?

On E.T.:
Kirk: Quit falling into the stupid pit, you piece of s***!

On Space Invaders:
EGM: Um, no. It was so popular that there was a shortage of the coins used to play it.

John: But you can get this game on a cell phone. Why would you want to pay for it in an arcade?

Ah sarcasm - the language of youth.

  1. After The Return of the King will come the prequels he he origin of the hobbits.

Indiana Jones 4, eh? So that’s what the Calista Flockhart affair is about… searching for the fountain of lost youth.

  2. Glad you took part! Feel free to drop by Tagline and throw a link to this post in our comments. (Must sort out TrackBack.)

And your T4 ideas are too cool to stay here - share ‘em at Tagline. :)

  4. y’know. i never got to figure out what the hell i was supposed to do in ET. all i could do was run from the spook guy, fall into the stupid pit, stretch my neck to levitate, run from the spook guy, fall into the stupid pit…

the heads-up on the tarantino interview is excellent public service. reminds me of why i read blogs in the first place.

kill bill is excellent, gotta love go-go.

  6. Nic, astig yung movie list diba?

Can’t wait for Kill Bill in the theaters kahit na may pirated dvds na dito.

  7. nic

mark, kill bill is definitely worth the wait. not sure how it’ll be in manila, but the slaughter of the crazy 88’s was in full color here (and in japan), as compared to b&w in the US and australia.

can’t wait for the original dvd.
