Excuse me but that *was* a girly scream.

Text In Question

Been surfing and ran across some cool reads. Will link ASAP. Promise.

Anyway, while surfing I found out that LiveJournal is offering a web-to-SMS feature as part of its paid service. Almost signed up too.

It would be cool to have that feature as part of your feedback system. And of course I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before someone abuses it. (Yeah I’m cynical that way).

However, pulling up the list of supported providers I found out that it didn’t support any local telcos. I shouldn’t be surprised since they’ve cracked down on those free web-to-sms sites a couple of years ago. Syempre libre kaya inabuso.

Which made me think that this might be a new service for the upstart new telco. Because our technology isn’t like the other two, we can, in theory, make this service available. Most people who download ringtone/logos/news/movie skeds on their phone don’t realize that they are using the Internet to get these information. The main difference is, unlike a website, the subscriber pays for the info before or as he/she gets the information. Subscription services for website can be a tough sell since most content — and most people are used to get it — for free. So, wireless value added services is just a matter of putting a price, albeit really small ones, to get access to those bits of info. If it weren’t for underlying tech issues it really is as simple as dialing-up and ‘talking’ to your favorite site.

My point? Would anyone really want to pay for web-to-sms service for a personal site? This could also apply for stores who would like to receive feedback from its customers blahblahblah. But then in Philippines, who uses the web anyway? Of course we can go the ‘viability be damned’ route and just go for the first-to-market bragging rights. If we can get local webheads and bloggers to switch to use to be able to use this feature then it can be called a success. Every bit helps.

Argh. A post about work. Ugh.
Sorry for the rant.
