RadYo! Mukha Mo Friday
The Soundtrack of the Movie In Our Heads. In celebration of tomorrow’s Oscars, I’ve decided that this weekend’s playlist would be music from the movies. Took me some time to decide what to put up, making this list late.
I think we all have our favorite movie moments. Songs and music can often contribute into making scenes from movies even more memorable. Did you know that the awesome theme of the Godfather didn’t win an Oscar in 1972? In fact, a movie may even be lousy but you would remember the great songs and the musical score it might have featured. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor from Rocky anyone? I used to collect movie soundtracks (in cassettes!) to relive some of my favorite movie moments (before DVDs!). There are of course movies which can make old, forgotten songs into hip anthems again. Quentin Tarantino is shaping up to be a master of the musical as well as movie homage. This was of course before Hollywood got wise that there was money to be made in Original Soundtracks (OSTs) and came up with the ‘Music Inspired By…’ albums. These compilations would contain songs which aren’t even featured in the movie. What a rip-off.
We start off with what is probably one of the most popular movie scores in recent history, the first strains can make a whole theater full of adults turn into giddy teenagers again. Within the list are some odd remakes or covers. Try associating the music with the scene it appears in the movie. I’ve even managed to sneak in a Pinoy track or two. The last two would guarantee you a time of your life. The very last one is from a movie whose story I could barely remember but can definitely remember the costumes (I swear it came out in a movie). Scarred me for life. Click on the links to find out.

I guess I can admit it now: the very first album I bought (paid for using my saved-up allowance) was the Rocky soundtrack. It was a frequent spinner in my record player. Don’t ask me why, I haven’t the slightest idea. But there, now my secret’s out.

Gigi, that’s okay. Mine was Thriller. Rocky was a good movie althoug it got diluted by its sequels. I think the Survivor people are living off royalties from that one song.
Junnie, yup I love Sarah M’s version. It was like a lullaby. I was choosing between that and Eddie V. I needed a bridge between Wating and Wedding Singer and I though Blackbird was too mellow for that. Astig #20 no? hehe
