The Incredibles DVD

The Incredibles movie was nothing short of a phenomenon. Pixar showed Disney that it can continue to produce quality animated movies using computers instead of the traditional cell animation. That’s why it’s a bit of disappointment to see the DVD version come up well, less than incredible.

Sure you can have a copy of the movie in all its CG splendor at the beck and call of your remote. However the second disc which promised a chock-full of extras came up a bit short.

Jack-Jack Attack, a four-minute short which features the youngest Incredible at home with his baby-sitter while the family was having their adventure featured in the movie, was entertaining enough and made you wanted more to see this family of superheroes. All the more frustrating because that’s all you’ll get to see in the extras that you feel was produced for the DVD. There is that hilarious 1960s style cartoon of Mr. Incredible and Frozone which was funnier if you play their commentary (Craig Nelson and Samuel Jackson providing the voices for the characters again).

The rest of the extras contained the Incredi-Blunders, a bloopers reel which was nothing but raw, sometimes wire-frame renderings of the characters in what looked like test scenes in unfunny situations. Pixar had hilarious blooper takes in A Bug’s Life, why not with the Incredibles? Even the alternate opening of the movie looked like animated storyboards - in black and white.

It’s not exactly the incredible 2-disc set I was hoping for but at least the movie is finally on DVD. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with a super-incredible-mega collector’s edition DVD set sometime in December. But that’s just me being cynical.

  1. binili ko ito last last weekend and i’ve been watching it over and over para makatulog the past 10 days. the DVD is great. i love the sound, i love the animation and the bonus tracks. and most of all, i love the commentary. very similar in a way to the very educational commentary of sam mendes in american beauty.

  2. galing nga nung commentary, very insightful. grabe yung detail and work that went into. na bitin lang talaga ako sa extras.

  3. well, oo nga walang masyadong extras. parang nagmadali ano. siguro magkakaroon ng special edition later on tulad ng ginawa nila sa lord of the rings.

nice thing about the DVD is that i can go back and slowmo the movie so i can see all the details.

  4. Hay, ang galing talaga ng The Incredibles. We saw it first in the moviehouse and then we bought the DVD. We’ve watched the DVD so many times and each time is like the first time. Hindi nawawala ang enjoyment.
