A Pinoy Blog About Nothing

Turn around, bright eyes.

State of the Blogosphere

No, I’m not being presumptuous and doing my own SONA. I’ll leave that to someone else. This one is from Technorati (via Sifry part 1, 2):

* The blogosphere continues to double about every 5.5 months
* A new blog is created about every second, there are over 80,000 created daily
* About 55% of all blogs are active, and that has remained a consistent statistic for at least a year
* About 13% of all blogs are updated at least weekly
* Technorati is tracking about 900,000 blog posts created every day
* That’s about 10.4 blog posts per second, on average
* Median time from posting to inclusion in the Technorati index is under 5 minutes
* Significant increases in posting volume are due to increased mainstream use of easy hosted tools as well as simple posting interfaces like post-from-IM and moblogging tools
* Weekends tend to be slower posting days by about 5-10% of the weekly averages
* During the day, posting tends to peak between the hours of 7AM and noon Pacific time (10AM - 3PM Eastern time)
* Worldwide news events cause ripples through the blogosphere - not only in search volume, but also in posting volume

I can take a guess that weekends tend to be slower because most Philippine-based bloggers access it from their offices.

And finally, ikaw ba ay nalolongkot at walang makaosap ma-post? Here’s a Public Service Announcement (via Banzai Cat)

  1. Cool stats, Mark. Very interesting.

I agree. Sometimes I get bored on weekends because there’s nothing new to read :)

  2. We considered the weekend lull when we were running 3 dot coms. I made a quick and dirty survey and found out one particular reason,

“kasi may The Buzz pag weekend” - was one of the reasons….o, carry niyo? (with that finger pointing straight to your fez)

  3. Thanks Anansi! Was surprised with those stats too. Yup weekends are dead. When I was waiting for updates from the Gaiman visit, I had to endure those two days of ‘blog silence’ before anyone had a substantial update. Not even one single cam phone shot until Monday. :)

Junnie, sabi na nga ba kasalanan lahat ni Kris. :) We observed that trend too back then. Most of the maintenance stuff happens on weekends. Quite the opposite with texting.

  4. Jio

So I guess, this includes me. :-D I also go out during weekends - away where there is no computer in an area.

  5. Hey Jio! Distribution pa rin ng Net access is mostly commercial establishments pero at least may mga net cafes and prepaid cards that’s changing that. Although mahal pa rin ang PCs compared to cellphones which people would rathe purchase.

At syempre, gimik time din yung weekends. :)
