The More Things Change…

Spent the last few days in California with the wife. They had TFC and GMA Pinoy TV where we stayed and managed to catch a few shows. Some observations:

1. They’re still giving shows to Bayani Agbayani and Smokey Manaloto. More Vhong!

2. They still devote way too much time on beauty contest winners. (Yeah yeah I know…pride of the Philippines all that but there’s more to Pinoys than beauty queens.)

3. For a predominantly Catholic country, TV shows can still get away portraying nuns using magic (Kampanerang Chuva Kuba)…

4. …while adults doing adult things gets yanked out of air for being indecent (Pinoy Big Brother).

5. Aga Muhlach is still getting away being the Boyfriend to someone like Claudine Barretto (Dubai), giving hopes to DOMs everywhere.

6. OPM is still awesome.

7. Whenever government officials get in hot water, they either get sick or disappear (Venable case, Garcillano).

8. Martial Law? Kasalanan sa mga anak at apo natin yan pag pinayagan ulit mangyari.

totoo nga yung #2 - para namang winning a beauty title could radically change the world. *hides from beauty pageant enthusiasts*

  2. Ayos lang yan magalit sila. Kahit sa kaliit-liitang baryo may beauty contest. Kelangan pa ba i-broadcast ni Ruff@ na dati siyang Ms. International so many years ago and out of context pa.

    1) Bayani yes, but Smokey? He seems not much in the limelight these days here (or so I observe). Yeah, Vhong should be shown more… though he’s already doing great in Wazzup, Wazzup at Studio 23.

    2) Pinoys adore beauty queens the same way we adore basketball players.

Hahaha, did Ruffa really say that? Her beauty is majestic, her brain is…

    3) Kampanerang Kuba with magical nuns. Yup, too formulaic. For the kids, the studio says.

    4) I don’t get it with this country. To be conservative or not? You get to see scantily clad men and women in big billboards here, and gyrating personalities in TV shows and pictures in magazines and even newspapers. You get to hear sexist/toilet jokes in innocent comedy shows. You get to see tabloids showing naked young women on the front pages.

Well, they also show skimpily clad contestants in Extra Challenge too.

    5) I could see your point here. :)

Also, it seems Star Cinema is just juggling around the same group of actors and actresses to grace their dramatic movies. Same meat, different sauce.

    6) I couldn’t agree more on this. :)

    7) Yan, kasi. Para hindi sila ma-stroke o ma-highblood o ma-heart attack during public grilling, eh mag-exercise tuwing umaga… tuwing umaga… tuwing umaga.

    8) NO WAY. ‘Nuff said.
