If you're looking for a point to this, I'm sorry but there isn't any.

Where One of My Favorite Authors Has A Busy Month

Mr. Neil Gaiman, who you’re probably tired of hearing from this space, had a busy month last September. His new novel came out and his first full-length film feature also made its onscreen debut.

I picked up Anansi Boys when we made our trip to the Left Coast. Haven’t finished it and that’s why this isn’t exactly a review just yet. Gaiman is still lyrical as ever and he can really make those words march in the cadence he wants them to go. Still though, I seem to have a hard time getting into the story despite the first part being set in our neck of the woods in Florida. He totally nailed it, unfortunately. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Mirrormask also came out last September 30 in selected theaters around the US. “Selected Theaters” always means we’ll be lucky if it gets shown next year in our part of Florida. Gaiman wrote the screenplay while long time collaborator Dave McKean directed it, under the Jim Henson production. Any geek worth his D&D set should know what these names mean.

Unfortunately though most of the critics didn’t seem to like it. What do they know anyway right? Still can’t wait to see it.

  1. Er, did you know that Fat Charlie and his family were black? I never thought of that when I read it…

… then again, I never think of color when I read a book. Weird.

  2. Hey Banzai! Going in, I assumed that he was black, Anansi being an African god/folklore and all. Also the description of the food was definitely Caribbean.

I don’t know if Gaiman intended it but he didn’t ’sound black’ whatever that means. (So did the supporting characters for that matter.) I may have missed it.

Good read though. Just finished it.
