Cop-Out Movie Reviews

The Adaptations:

Rent: Wait for it on disc to get that intimate theater feel. You know you’re in trouble when the La Vie Boheme number isn’t as catchy or inspiring as the stage version. Although Tango Maureen was great, Chris Columbus again didn’t stray from the original material as in earlier attempts at the franchise…

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
: Cuaron’s tone? Check. Nice FX? Check. Actors from previous movies? Check. Offering anything new? Nope, although Ralph Fiennes makes a good Voldemort and it is a nice intro to the darker set of books after HP IV.

The Animation:

Corpse Bride: I can appreciate the technical wizardry but story-wise it’s a warmed up corpse of previous Tim Burton themes: it’s not easy having gangrene.

Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit: The Cheese Gromit! Love the details of the stop-motion town and its funky denizens. Funny without trying too hard. Can’t wait to have this on DVD.

Chicken Little
: Is this the best the new Disney can do after abandoning traditional hand-painted animation? Pixar need not worry. Good for small children but adults might not have as much fun like in Toy Story, Incredibles and other Pixar-made stuff.

  1. true with chicken little. watched it last night. i dunno. felt there was something missing. and i squirmed in my seat. for me, that usually means i’m bored. :-)

  2. “it’s not easy having gangrene.” heh.

  3. pen

you’re right about chicken little. it did not have the same charm that Toy Story, Monsters and Finding Nemo had. or maybe talagang biased na ako kasi alam ko na from the start that it wasn’t by Pixar? hehe.
