A Pinoy Blog About Nothing

Turn around, bright eyes.

State of Confusion

At least for some people.

I’d like to post something cheerful (weird links) or inconsequential (recent consumption of pop culture) not Serious with a capital S. Unfortunately, I can’t just yet. I read somewhere Monday is supposed to be important regarding the status of PGMA’s State of Emergency declartion. Already the empathic warning of the government to the media and the closing of the Tribune has a chilling effect on some of the normally…verbose…bloggers. I can’t believe younger bloggers don’t even mention any of the events that will have a direct effect on their future. Still others still sit on the fence on the face of blatant abuse of power. I guess they’re still waiting for that knock in the night to get them off their asses. Have an opinion. Any opinion. Get involved. Now is not the time to be silent. Maybe FVR is on to something when he said people are tired of political bickering.

But know this: if they do crackdown on web-access and blogging, somehow the Filipinos based outside the country will continue getting the word out on events in Manila. Conrado de Quiros said it best in his column today: Protest. Defy. Fight back.

It’s sad that for someone like PGMA who ran on a platform of being an economist did something that’s obviously hurting the economy. 1017 is an abomination. Too bad I saw The Wily Filipino’s post a bit late — we were at the City around that time.

Meanwhile, while looking for updates on the situation in Manila, I too share Manuel Viloria’s disappointment to the lack of pictures and videos of events from the more technically adept bloggers. Ironic since it’s simple to send pictures from camphones via email or even via shortcode. I understand it happened on a Friday where most people were at work and the younger people, at school. (Didn’t they normally declared it a holiday? hmmm). Budj has a funny one which made me want to look for more. Maybe my search-fu isn’t what it’s used to be (aren’t tags supposed to make finding things easier? grrr ) but I’ve only found a handul on Flickr by Adam, Akumach, FGirl and ViewMasterEd. Jove has posted pictures of that fateful weekend at the Palace. Those pictures by Tokwa_Baboy of marchers juxtaposed with a WWE wrestling event is surreal. But then it is the Philippines. (Update: MLQIII just put up his collection of pictures here. Rough Groove also has pictures here and here.)

And so we wait for events to develop back Home. We’re focusing our energies elsewhere.

Meanwhile here’s some music for you.
