Hakone Gardens
Finally got to visit Hakone Gardens. It’s an “authentic reproduction of a 19th-century Kyoto tea merchant’s house and shop.” The Japanese carpenters supposedly used traditional tools and methods on the timber and materials shipped from Japan. Some of the scenes from Memoirs of a Geisha were shot here. It’s every bit as quaint and austere as I imagined it although the flowers weren’t bloom yet. Should be fun to see it again once the sun is up. I can imagine a lot of writing could be done there.
More pics at Flickr. No you won’t see me in my ninja outfit.
