Quickie Reviews: Miami Vice, Clerks II, Lady in the Water
Although there aren’t Michael Bay-like ka-blewy in Michael Mann’s movie version of Miami Vice, it still delivers the explosive action. Can’t recommend it for the big screen though…you won’t miss anything (unless you’re looking out for Mann’s subtleties) if you wait for it on DVD. Maybe it was just the theater where we watched it but the characters seem to be mumbling most of the time. No pastels. No Phil Collins. Not much Tubb - Crockett interaction. This might as well have been titled Heat 2: Miami Heat. Still enjoyable if you’re a Mann/police action-flick fan. Keep an eye out for the trailer park sequence. Best action scene so far this year.

5 Reasons Why Clerks II is the Best Movie of the Summer
1. Rosario Dawson dancing to Jackson 5
2. Star Wars geek vs Lord of the Rings geeks
3. More man to man love (in a hetero way) than Superman Returns/X-Men Last Stand.
4. Mindless humor is more entertaining than mindless violence.
5. Kong is King? No! Donkey is King!
Still though you might get more bang for your buck if you get the DVD. Me, I’m a fan of the Askewniverse so yeah we shelled out some dough. Time to reclaim it! ;)

The Lady in the Water is soggy. Water-logged dialogue with wave after wave of Shymalan predictable schtick. Maybe if you haven’t soaked in any M. Night movies before, you might enjoy wading in this one. If not, avoid even on DVD come hell or high water. Even Paul Giamatti’s yeoman work couldn’t save this belly-flop.

yup, lady in the water really sucked BIG TIME. i was very disappointed that a fine actor such as paul giamatti even gave this the time of day after reading the stupid script.
