Remings of the Day
Sorry for the pun but it seems like most Pinoy bloggers have taken most of the headline about Reming.
Watching the devastation of Reming on Albay on TV is harrowing. People dying from the cold, from drowning, from being buried in mud and not to mention being hit debris coming loose from the typhoon. The blogs however, at least a cursory glance on Technorati, mentions nothing but ‘relief’. Enh? Just because it didn’t smack Metro Manila doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Jeez.
Reminds of that old campaign called ‘Tapat Ko Linis Ko’ (or something close to that stupid catchy slogan). The point of that campaign is one should be responsible to one’s front yard — emphasis on one’s front yard. The rationale being if everyone cleans up his or her front yard, the neighborhood would be clean. How short-sighted and parochial! If you only think of what’s yours, you don’t benefit. Start thinking about the community and perhaps you’ll start seeing the benefit.
Just because Metro Manila didn’t suffer Milenyo-like damage doesn’t mean Reming doesn’t count. If you’d like to help out here are some places to start. Christmas is coming up and these folks surely need help.

We should’ve stuck to the international of Reming which is Durian: because it surely stinks.

Uy, title ng entry mo eh from Remains of the Day ano? :P
Parang ano rin yan eh, “ay buti na lang hindi kami (ang binagyo).” Ba’t kaya ganun ang thinking ng ibang Pinoy? :\

@Angela - yup from the book and the movie.
@Amateur Misanthrope - it would be more effective and blow my socks if off if you did post it. ;) Thanks for visiting.

hi, i’m from legazpi city and was literally and figuratively hit by typhoon reming. our house never experienced floods before in my whole lifetime (that’s 20+ years) but during the typhoon reming the water went up to my mom’s neck (she’s 5 flat) and if we hadn’t gone out god knows what could have happened to us. we spent christmas and new year without electricity. thankfully our appliances still worked after swimming in mud/water. the Albayanos are also thankful that a lot of people gave us a hand, but it seems that naturalesa na din ata ng ibang pilipino na mang-gulang sa kapwa — during the relief-giving period, our labandera went crazy looking for “tickets” being handed out so she can get “relief” for her kids, while our rich neighbor - his large house untouched by the typhoon - reported “total damage” to his property to the authorities and got tickets delivered to his house. and we were like wtf? kaya di umaasenso ang pilipinas eh.
