Me Too!
Just some musings about start-ups and essentially the nature of web companies (you can’t make me say Web 2.0).
A couple of days ago, several students from class presented their ideas for a start-up. Out of the five presentations delivered, four mentioned Youtube.com. Most of these were pretty good ideas and the one that didn’t mention YouTube is a business that’s already up and running.
Sure, no one would refuse billions of dollars (even if it’s just stock) to buy your company but personally I think you have to offer more than just wanting to be YouTube. There are tons of video-sharing sites out there but what made/makes YouTube special? YouTube is fun, easy to use, highly addictive and the special sauce that made it tick. If I knew what it is, I’d tell you. No really.
My belief is if you’re putting up a company, you go beyond the YouTube model. It has to be exciting, fun and disruptive.

Well said. YouTube is a good model, but in order to make a startup company succeed is to take something good from YouTube and make it better. Now that it’s under Google, chances have gone up for future rivals some experts say.

What makes Youtube tick for me is the fact that I can easily access the music videos I want to see and they’re way less complicated than seeing them in any music video channel websites.
