Joost-ing It
So I got into the beta testing of Joost, the latest project of the founders of Skype and Kazaa. It’s a peer-to-peer TV sharing platform. It’s not like Youtube or the other video-sharing site in that Joost is backed by the content developers (ie networks) like MTV, BET, Paramount Pictures and Warner Music. I’m sure soon you’ll be able to share your own videos as well. There’s also a huge difference in the quality of the video streams — it looks a way lot better than your average video sharing website and the ability to see it with a bigger screen. What more, it distinguishes channels between US-only available channels and those available worldwide.
So I got into the beta test of Joost — and they gave me three invites to give out. First three people who sends me a message via the Contact Me page (not through the comment function on this post), send me your name and website url. I’ll acknowledge the invitees on this post.
UPDATE: Paulo and Butch got the first two invites. Hope you guys enjoy them. One invite left to give out. All out! Thanks for playing.

Hey Junnie! Yes I’m particularly excited about this one — especially coming from the founders of such disruptive applications. I think P2P is the way to go, to cut through the noise of all the information available online. But yeah the content is a bit limited at this point. Di ko na ma-take yung mga cartoons. :)

i got my joost invite about a week ago. downloaded the dmg, installed and registered my username and ensured that the joost port that the website recommended we leave open was properly authorized. but i couldn’t watch any program. it was always unavailable. maybe it was my slow dsl connection. i dunno.
anyway, after killing joost, the logs kept showing a different port was being pinged. the only reason why i found out that it was a joost connection was because one of the links had joost written on it. the said port was not the one the website said should be opened.
anyway, i’ve given up on it for now. i don’t want to be opening ports that aren’t properly labeled.
long story short: i’m still curious as to your joost experience. the fact that i can’t make it work now hasn’t deterred me on trying it out someday, if it’s worth all that headache.
cheers.

Hey Cocoy! Thanks for dropping by.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with Joost. When I first ran it (prior to this latest build), I couldn’t use my browser. I had to uninstall the everything to be able to surf again. Works fine in this version. It seems they have some ways to go before Joost is fully realized.
