God Save The Queen
I wasn’t going to pick this up since I’ve had my fill of Mike Carey stories. What got me was the gorgeous artwork by John Bolton. For God Save the Queen, Carey revisits Neil Gaiman’s (or rather William Shakespeare’s) characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Dreaming.
The queen in the book’s title is Queen Titania of the Fairy folk. The Fairy Queen got herself in a spot of trouble when her nemesis Queen Mab (as referred to in another of Will Shakespeare’s work by Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet) makes a comeback and removes her from the throne. Titania is forced to seek the help of a young woman named Linda in the very real world of Northern London.
The story may be a bit thin considering the rich characters involved but Bolton’s artwork carries it through a satisfying conclusion. I won’t be surprised if we see these characters again in a mini-series or even a regular book. I’d be satisfied if they get another one-shot graphic novel treatment.

i think you’ll appreciate this. he read 100% percent perfect girl, then i got to tell him we actually used it as one of our readings for our wedding, palakpakan lahat. tuwa naman si manong haruki. kinikilig pa rin ako :)
