Merry Christmas! Now get off the computer…

I love the sentiment expressed in this commercial by Smart Communications. There are just some things that are uniquely Christmas for Filipinos. But (you knew there was a ‘but’ coming) I don’t agree on two points. Una, bakit may mga puti dyan sa ad? Kung pinapauwi nyo yung mga Pilipino galing sa abroad, bakit may [...]

H&M Racism

While reactionaries in the Phil. government brought the fire and brimstone on that non-issue* from a stupid show like Desperate Housewives, a Filipina in Chicago gets insulted for her ethnicity. That’s an insult directed right to her face and barely a peep. Kahit harap-harapan na yung insulto, mahirap talaga pag hindi showbiz yung involved. Di [...]

What on Earth?

Happy Earth Day, you resource-hogging humans. I’m sure there’s a ton of reuse, recycle, reduce retread articles and posts out there. I’d like to point out about one other problem facing the Philippines and other developing countries.

2. Drivers not using their turn signals.
3. Fiddling with your wireless earpiece while letting your phone ring. JUST PICK THE DAMN THING UP — YOU”RE JUST WALKING!
4. Blogs with freaking redirects to ads [...]

Remings of the Day

Watching the devastation of Reming on Albay on TV is harrowing. People dying from the cold, from drowning, from being buried in mud and not to mention being hit debris coming loose from the typhoon. The blogs [...]

Get Angry

“Pop culture rolled over and died some time ago. Some people actually think Marilyn Manson is scary, that Kurt Cobain had something to do with rebellion, that Bret Easton Ellis is a dangerous writer, that it’s a good thing that you can buy McDonalds in Prague, that movies are somehow relevant to our lives.
Television is [...]

Killer Queen

And to think this is only my second American Idol post.
We watched Idol last night only because the Idol-aters were asked to sing Queen songs. We went straight to the performances and just skipped Seacrest’s blathering and the judges contrived disagreements. Thank you, DVR.
