The piece was meant to be a satire, my pastiche of Dave Barry’s style.

There was no King Pinas — the Philippines was named after King Philip II of Spain. ‘Pinas is the slang/colloquial term for the Philippines, mostly used by Filipinos (Pinoys).

I loved your article. As an older American and a major history nut, I found the article to be very funny and actually quite accurate except for the reference to King Phillip. I would suggest Vernica get a life and a sense of humor, although the idea of a few photos is rather appealing

King Pinas? There was no Spanish king that had the name Pinas.

The Philippines was named after King Felipe or King Philip of Spain, not Pinas.
