BBQ

There’s at least 1 barbeque stand for every 3 blocks here in Quezon City. Filipinos love it for merienda, dinner and it will always be part of parties or fiestas. Last Saturday, Aling Inengs had the longest line at the food fair in Salcedo. Pebbles and other officemates raves about Aling Inengs’ barbeque. I just had to taste it, so I waited in line for almost 15 mins. It was really worth the wait. I ordered pork barbeque and the pork was so tender. Not bad for P25.00 since the meat was “siksik”.

Check out Aling Inengs at Market Market or Salcedo Village
Just be ready to fall in line. If you’re “sosyal” have your yayas in uniform wait in line for your P25.00 bbq. Looks like this is the trend in both outlets. Hehe

Since this is a barbeque special, Moby only had praises after eating 3 pieces of chicken barbeque at Alex III near ABS-CBN. He was raving and even asked the waiters for the comment card. He initially didn’t want to join us for lunch that day since he thought it was just one of those fancy restos that Jovan and I wanted to try out. He also had praised the peanut sauce. I finally have a gift for Moby for Christmas – 1 box of the peanut sauce from Alex III. We we’re surprised that Moby didn’t know about the chicken barbeque of Alex III or Aristocrat. We ate there again today and just like the first time, Moby couldn’t stop raving. He’s now planning when we’ll have the next lunch there.

For more barbeque recos here’s more that you should check out:
Aling Lucing – located near Amoranto in Q.C. , i’ll post their numbers once I find it. Each bbq costs P7.00. You should also try their isaw and other bbq stuff
Beach House in U.P. – big chunks of meat with rice. you should also order salted eggs and tomatoes as side dish, sarap!

We headed to Salcedo village last Saturday.Just a week ago my friends were describing the many things you can find at the Saturday food fair. The fair which was situated in an empty parking lot had a wide array of stuff to eat. One could find organic vegetables, fresh seafood, chicken inasal. But Jessie and I had one thing in mind that day. We were looking for the stall that sold Pritson, I really don’t know how the Native litson evolved into pritson. All I know it’s super good. They use suckling pigs for this then oven baked until it’s crisp. It’s probably similar to “Conchinilla”, the suckling pig becomes so tender one can cut it with the edge of a saucer.

The meat is cut into strips, then folded into thin sheets of pita or crepe. Add cucumber, green onions and some carrots, then add some strips. Add the hoisin sauce before the crepe is folded. Sarap! Tastes like Peking Duck!

Just desserts

For those who are tired of giving, ordering and receiving the usual “cakes” such as black forest here are other alternatives.

Some are new comers, the others were there for almost more than 20 years already.

Estrelle’s Caramel Cakes
54 Scout Tobias St. Cor Sct Limbaga
Tel Nos. 3722965

I super love the caramel and butter icing. Great as gifts since they fill up a whole cake with wonderful butter icing roses. You must order in advance since they don’t have pre made cakes.

Banapple

I’ve mentioned this before in one of my entries, if you’re fond of bananas you should try the Banana Toffee Pie, a must try too is the Oreo Peanut Chocolate.

Dulce Lin Mango Torte
36 Times St.
3742165

How can you go wrong with the combination of mangoes and cream. But when you add nougatine with some nuts this becomes a deadly dessert. Comes in 2 sizes P450 for the small and P650 for the big one. I suggest you get the big one, highly addicting.
