Crabstick Sandwich

I love the crabstick sandwhich in Delifrance. I’m a sandwich person so this is definitely one of my favorites. With my brother frequenting St. Luke’s, this is now a regular meal for me. You can choose from two kinds of breads – baguette or whole wheat. I prefer the baguette.

I’ll try to experiment at home and hope to share the recipe soon :)

Vinegared Rice Rolled in Seaweed

With the potluck orders in full swing, Jovan asked me if I can make Maki. I’ve only made california maki for my family so this is the first time that I will be making it as an “order”. I enjoyed doing this for him since I did some research about it :)

California Maki1

I made several kinds – tuna, cucumber and california maki. The only problem though was I couldn’t make the california maki inside out. So that explains the picture. It has still the same ingredients but the rice and the orther stuff are inside.

Here are some terms that I learned:

Maki – means roll
Kappamaki – cucumber roll
Tekkamaki – raw tuna roll
Gari – pickled ginger
Tobiko – the orange fish roe in california maki

Well the next time I will have orders, the maki will look better already. Plus I’m not stopping til I can make the California Rolls already.

Merry Christmas

By 12 noon I will start to prepare for our Noche Buena. We’re having Asian dishes tonight, since I want to veer away from the traditional Filipinos dishes served during the season. I’m sure we’ll definitely be having Kare-kare or cocido somewhere else. There might also be party spaghetti and barbeque in any of the potlucks.

Tonight’s menu is:

Hoisin pork in Lettuce cups with crispy bihon
Lapu-lapu fillet in lemongrass sauce
Pandan Chicken
Pineapple fried rice

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone and don’t eat too much :)

It’s 4 AM and some of our neighbors are just walking toward the chapel for the Simbang Gabi. I haven’t been able to attend lately because of the orders. I’m just about to sleep, and I’m killing my adrenaline from making 112 orders of Pesto Pate to be delivered tomorrow err today pala.

For the whole week I’ve been running around, going to the grocery everyday to complete orders of my potluck specialties. I never realized that this could happen when I first decided to quit my job. It was bad when I was in Interactive I would always buy my Christmas gifts one week before Christmas day. Now, I just have one gift and the rest of the names on my list are still not crossed out. Well, I’m not really complaining. I’m actually happy that I get to cook, meet new people and get them to buy my specialties. I’m also happy about the feedback. Hehe the moment I deliver their food, I get sms messages 1 or 2 hours after telling me that the food was great. Kakaaliw no? Instant gratification hehe.

Food of Comfort

We’ve been frequenting the hospitals lately after my brother was diagnosed to have cancer. I chose to stop training first and give him 80% of my attention but I still left 20% for cooking ( I still have to earn something). During the times that we would be in the hospital he would always ask for food. I guess it’s his way of feeling at home or feeling comforted. The day before he was operated on he wanted Smokey’s hotdog with everything on it. The other day he wanted Max’s chicken then Kowloon’s asado siopao. Then I realized that all his food requests reminded us of our childhood. Each food reminded us of certain events in our lives. He also craved for the popular tacos in Shoppesville Greenhills plus the siopao and ice cold Coke in Chocful of Nuts also in Greenhills. When he got back from Guam, a bowl of Tom Yam was already waiting for him.

As for my comfort food? It was still sinigang, I just had to order that when we had lunch in Max’s the other day.
Thank God for food – for the sustenance and the comfort it brings to the wounded soul.
