snacks from the past

i’ve always loved cheetos since i was a kid. Friends would know that this was my ultimate comfort food. Even mark managed to create a term for me – “cheetos moments” meaning days when you’d rather hide under the covers and wish that you don’t exist.

cowlabel.jpgThe next favorite snack was the chocolate pretzels of jack and jill. I was quite surprised that it was still sold in the groceries, then there’s clover chips and chippy. Just the other day, manny and I were preparing for his birthday dinner at Cow King when he requested that we include Cow Label as the appetizer. it was a challenge to find it. i went to 3 groceries and the sales clerks were clueless about the product. Then we thought that Unimart might still have stocks of it. To manny‘s surprise they were still selling it! He bought 10 boxes for the party and his friends had a blast. To remind you, Cow Label is similar to beef jerky. It has this sweet salty taste and the sauce is super sticky. It used to have bigger strips of meat but now they’ve cut it down to smaller bite sizes.

These are triangular corn chips with two flavors, cheese and bbq. I was happy to find this in a small Korean grocery in Timog. I ate it for merienda and it still tasted the same! I think I have to buy more.

These snacks bring back good memories, I think I will have to introduce these to my niece and nephews. What were your favorite snacks when you were kids? Can you still buy these from the stores?

I had dinner with clorets two fridays ago. para maiba naman we went to Edsa-Shangrila Hotel’s Heat. I was scared that I might over eat again and be brought again to the hospital the next day. So I took my time in selecting what I wanted to eat and taste. I liked the spread in Paseo Uno better but there were some dishes that stood out in Heat. I liked the breaded scallops, the oysters, there was also the crabs with chili sauce. I also loved the way the staff interacted with the guests. One of the pastry chefs was nice enough to explain to an old lady about the dessert spread. To end the sumputuous meal, clorets and I had vanilla ice cream topped with strawberries, mangoes and chocolate sauce.

Last Saturday, I went on another food trip with some friends in cooking school. We went to Binondo just to eat Kiampung (sticky fried rice with peanuts), buttered chicken, oyster cake in Sincerity. I also managed to buy Holland hopia to bring home plus pork floss and peanut oil for cooking. Kat bought salted raisins, which were pretty good. Before heading home Kat wanted to have some coffee. But I could not resist the desserts of UCC. I opted to have Mango crepe instead of coffee. Sarap! Hoping for another food trip with my friends soon.
