Lance Armstrong’s passion for biking makes me want to go out and ride.

His life story inspires me to go out and win at something, even if it’s just
my daily struggle against laziness and inertia.

(or, lessons I recently learned while eating, or that involved food)

lesson #1: love and forgiveness, action and consequence
location: mall food court
time: about 12:30 pm
characters: little girl, about 5 years old, and her mom

Little Girl (her voice rising a couple of notches): But I said I’m sorry…!
Mom (in a patient, gentle voice): I know, honey. And I forgive you. But
you need to understand that your actions have results…and even if you
say you’re sorry after you have disobeyed me, you still have to face the
results of your actions. I forgive you and I love you, but because you
did what I told you not to do, there will be no ice cream for you today.

*****
lesson #2: there are some things that shouldn’t be microwaved
location: apartment
time: 3 am
characters: me (and maybe my upstairs neighbor(s))

Lechon kawali should not be reheated in the microwave, because, when
the heat reaches a certain point, the pork pieces simply explode and make
a noise that sounds like gunfire. And if this happens at 3 am when everything
else is still and quite, what will the upstairs neighbor(s) think?
