August 2005

I’ve publicly admitted to being a “fangirl” of only three male entertainers in my life - Sting, Gary Valenciano, and Chito of Parokya ni Edgar. Well, I think I’m about to add Ryan Conferido to that list. ;-)

I’m really impressed - not only because he’s a talented dancer who can do a headstand straight from a backflip, not only because he (and Melissa) did a fantastic job with last week’s mambo and again with this week’s salsa, but because he’s got such a cool attitude and he’s so much fun to watch.

looks like they’re enjoying themselves

Ryan’s quote of the night: “The only thing that worries me about the routine is lifting Melissa. That would be the worst thing to happen is if I dropped her. I don’t wanna drop her. I’d rather fall myself than drop her.”

a perfectly executed lift-and-spin

I know there are probably a couple of male dancers in So You Think You Can Dance who are better trained and/or more technically skilled than Ryan, but I hope he makes it to the Final Six. And I hope he makes it big even after the show!

==========
Update (at 0113 am 08/25): As usual, Rickey already has video clips of last night’s show at his site. Incidentally, Rickey is also Pinoy. And according to Rudeboy, so is Ryan. Galing!

Update (at 0306 am 08/28): A little searching unearthed this little gem of a video of Ryan ‘experimenting’ with a dance move during some down time at a dance studio. I think he’s with the other members of the Sickstep Crew at this time. Aliw!

(And a little note for those googling the meaning or translation of “bebot” in Enlish and somehow finding their way to this site: “Bebot” is a Tagalog slang word for “woman” or “young woman”. It is used to connote the equivalent of “chick” or “girl”. So “aking bebot” can be translated as “my chick” or “my girl”…yes, you can also say “my babe”, but that’s kinda taking it a bit too far. :-) And yes, back in the Philippines, there are girls/women whose nicknames are “Bebot” (I even have a friend here in the U.S. who has that name). Some of them keep this name even when they’ve grown older, so you actually have some women named “Ate Bebot” or “Auntie Bebot”, but I have yet to meet someone named “Lola (Grandma) Bebot”).

I hope this information is helpful, and I hope that because of this you are able to sleep tonight. ;-) )
