tree and shadow
It’s been a long, long winter…one filled with many changes and adjustments as Mark and I moved almost 3,000 miles from the southeast coast of Florida to the Bay Area in California. It was sad to say goodbye to our small, close-knit Filipino community in Florida, but it was also exciting to come to the rich cultural kaleidoscope that is the Bay Area.
It was fun but also somewhat stressful to go through the moving-in chores and errands all over again…register the car, get local drivers’ licenses, buy and occassionally assemble furniture and furnishings, update our address at pertinent institutions, get local landline and mobile phone numbers…the list goes on. There was also the adjustment to new jobs, new schedules, new routines, new everything.
And just when we had finally gotten into the groove of things, sad and alarming news came from the Philippines one after the other: the stampede at the ULTRA, the mudslide in Southern Leyte, the declaration of the State of Emergency and its attendant confusion and chaos.
Hay.
On the brighter side, we really love this new place we’re at…the weather’s beautiful (although the temperature sometimes dips into the 30’s), the culture is varied, the pace of life is exciting but not hectic, and the food choices are many and often fabulous.
It hasn’t really been that bad of a winter for us personally…just slightly overwhelming at times. But I’m glad that spring is coming, and with it the promise of new and even better things.

you can say that again. you can compare spring to your current state of life, after all those hurried activities, the transfers, the calamities, here comes new life, and new hope in a new city.
happy spring to you and mark!

Hi petite, so great to find you blogging again! Huy, I never got to thank you for those calls you made on our wedding day, so sorry we didn’t get to talk, but we’re really touched that you took the time!
I’m happy that you and mark have adjusted to your move… tsaka spring na dyan, hayy ganda, you know I was just saying the other day na sana may spring din dito, hehe
Ngapala, I love your new layout! The header green hue is the same as that of our accent wall at home. Really nice.

hi, phisch! this is my first ‘real’ spring…and i love it! i love seeing the first blooms on the once-bare cherry trees as well as the bursts of colors in the gardens around our area. beautiful!
p.s.: thanks for ‘introducing’ me to trader joe’s (reference: your blog about lemon cake with lemon curd). we now live close to one…so close we sometimes walk down to the store to get our staples. we’ve really enjoyed everything we’ve tried so far…my absolute favorite is the carrot cake.

hi pia aka allkaput!
you’re welcome, dearie, and ok lang noh…strict yung secretary mo that night eh (aka deedee) but rightly so…you needed to be awake and alert for your early-morning wedding! sayang we weren’t able to call nga during the reception…would have loved to talk to you. pero tawag na lang kame ulit…
yup, spring is literally and figuratively here and i for one am really glad it is! fall/winter 2005 was a bumpy one for us…enjoyable at times but definitely bumpy. i’m proud of being able to multi-task and juggle a lot of things without missing a beat, but last winter i found myself hiding under the covers several times just to get some respite from the stress (or baka nalamigan lang ako, hehe). i’m sure you can relate to this, sistah.
anyway, tapos na yun, and we’ve definitely adjusted to our ‘new life’. kaya i find this green color so apt for this website at this time. i’m sure the accent wall in your home looks fantastic as well! email me a photo minsan ha.
here’s to new beginnings!
